How to Choose a Suitable Telescopic Spreader

1. Adapt to container size

Length adaptation: First, determine the container length involved in the operation. If it is mainly 20-foot and 40-foot containers, the telescopic spreader must be able to accurately adapt to these two types. Its telescopic length must be able to smoothly switch between the 20-foot and 40-foot states, and remain stable and accurately positioned. If you also handle special length containers such as 45 feet, you will need a spreader with a wider telescopic range.

Width and height considerations: Pay attention to the width and height changes of containers. For extra-high and extra-wide containers, such as refrigerated containers, the Telescopic Spreader must also be adaptable in width and height to ensure safe and stable lifting.

2. Lifting capacity adaptation

Maximum lifting weight: The lifting capacity is determined based on the weight of the heaviest container. The weight of the container itself and possible overloading should be considered. If the terminal often lifts containers with a total weight of 40 tons, the maximum lifting weight of the selected Telescopic Spreader should not be less than 40 tons, and there should be a safety margin of about 1.2 - 1.5.

Dynamic lifting performance: Consider the dynamic factors in the lifting process. During rapid lifting or emergency braking, the lifting equipment must be able to withstand inertia force, and the structure and material strength must adapt to the dynamic working environment.

3. Compatible with crane

Connection method: Make sure there is a suitable connection method with the crane. Different cranes have different hanger structures and connection sizes, and the connection parts of the Telescopic Spreader must match them accurately. For example, the connection methods of STS Gantry Crane and RTG crane are different, so you must choose a spreader with the corresponding connection method.

Control system compatibility: The control system must be well compatible with the crane control system. When operating the crane, the spreader can respond synchronously, and the spreader extension, rotation and locking functions can be effectively controlled through the crane operating room.

4. Adapt to the work environment

Environmental tolerance: Consider the working environment, such as high salt fog at the seaside, corrosive gases in chemical areas, or low temperature environments. The metal parts of the hoisting equipment used at the seaside must have good anti-corrosion measures, and the hydraulic and electrical systems must be able to work normally in low temperature environments.

Operation frequency and intensity: Choose according to the operation frequency and intensity. Busy ports have large daily loading and unloading volumes, so you should choose a Telescopic Spreader with a sturdy structure and high durability. Key components should be able to withstand high-frequency operations and maintain a low failure rate.
